THE PURPOSE OF
ASCENSION FELLOWSHIPS INTERNATIONAL
AFI exists to serve the local churches. In the early church the function of the ascension ministries was not to rule local bodies, but rather to train, equip, instruct, correct and encourage the local churches. Such is our desire today. Where there is a need; our desire is to be of assistance, to aid in training, to see local eldership mature and ministry emerge, and to see the local church function as a complete expression of the body.
It is the deep conviction of the AFI that one key to the success of the early church was the presence of the Ascension gift ministries; apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. (Eph. 4:11)
Over the centuries the truth of "Headship" ministries was lost to the church (Col. 2:19). In our present day, along with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and other truths, God is restoring the ascension ministries to the church.
The purpose of ascension ministries according to 'Eph. 4, is to train ' the Body of Christ for its work of ministry that the body might build itself up and grow to perfection.
The purpose of AFI is not to gather a large number of churches under one canopy or to create a denomination. The existence of AFI is for one purpose only: TO SERVE THE LOCAL CHURCHES.
